A new purpose built facility marks the start
of a new era for Launceston based company Mclaine Stainless.
Situated at 252 George Town Rd, Rocherlea, Mclaine Stainless
is a specialized stainless steel and nickel fabricator which
has worked closely with a number of Tasmanian industries for
more than 30 years.
“When we first opened we were in a small shed in Invermay,”
general manager Greame Barker said. “We first
moved to George Town Rd in the early 1990s and into our new
shed, next door to where we were recently.
”The new facility will give us more capacity to make
larger tanks with more room to carry out a number of jobs
at the one time. “We will be more efficient than
ever before and look forward to the support from local industry
to increase our workload".
More than 20 years ago, Mclaine Stainless began working with
interstate companies and since then had gained a reputation
as a renown quality steel fabricator, Mr. Barker said.
“We are vital to a number of industries both state wide
and nation wide and we trust we can improve our turnaround
times and position ourselves to respond quickly to any emergency
or breakdown,” he said. “We support the
vegetable processing and farming industries, breweries, the
wine and mining industries as well as major companies such
as TEMCO, ACL Bearing, Boag's and Comalco.”
Workshop manager Darren Dornauf said Mclaine Stainless offered
a superior and unique service to Tasmania's industries.
“We are more vital to some industries than others and
we do a lot of furnace work with nickel alloys.” he
said. “This is extremely specialized work that
gets shipped all around Australia. ”We are the
major specialist stainless and nickle based fabricators in
Tasmania.”
Mr. Dornauf said he hoped the modern premises would stimulate
new business for Mclaine Stainless. “We now have
new equipment, meaning we can make a wider range of products,”
he said. “Hopefully this means we can deal with
customers that we haven't dealt with before.”
